Why is it so important for us to prove to others that we are right and they are wrong - what is that?
When God says to be humble, he lets us know we must examine our motives and attitudes.
Humble people don't have to be right or have the last word.
They know when to be quiet.
They're usually the first to apologize.
They're willing to adapt themselves to other people.
They don't expect everybody to be just like them, and they always choose to forgive.

The Bible says that pride deceives us, and often it can be a very subtle thing. Sometimes we can get carried away and get a little too big for our britches by thinking we are a little smarter than someone else, or a little better then them.
The best way to find out how we are doing in this area is to simply pay attention to how we treat the people that come across our path everyday.
Many people misunderstand what humility means. They think humility means being weak or passive. Although we should avoid self-pride, godly humility does not mean we should pretend we are unaware of the gifts God has given us. The key is to remember that they are from God. The better we know God the less we have to prove.
Philippians 2:5-8 says, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross".
